Verizon won 3,511 of 5,684 licenses at the auction for frequencies that are ideal for the 5G network. The company will pay $45.5 billion for them. In second place is AT&T. It got 1,621 licenses for $23.4 billion. The third largest U.S. operator, T-Mobile, got only 142 licenses for $9.3 billion, but it is no longer as badly in need of frequencies for 5P as its competitors. T-Mobile received some of the necessary frequencies as a result of its merger with Sprint.
